April: chaos, change, and starting anyway

Hello Creative Ones!

April is here… which means we’re officially in that strange in-between season. One minute it’s sunny and you’re convinced you’ve turned a corner in life, the next minute it’s raining sideways and you’re questioning everything (including your choice of jacket).

Honestly, it feels kind of like being a human.

A bit messy. A bit hopeful. Slightly unhinged some days.

So instead of big, dramatic transformations, I’ve been leaning into small, doable shifts—the kind that don’t require much from me but create change. Perhaps you would like to join me?

A simple expressive writing idea to try:

Set a timer for 5 minutes and start with:
“Lately, I’ve been pretending that…”

Don’t overthink it—just go.

It might be:

  • “…I’m fine with things I’m actually not fine with”
  • “…I don’t need rest”
  • “…I know what I’m doing” (a classic)

Let it be honest. A little awkward. Maybe even funny. Free write for 5 minutes.

When you’re done, read it back and notice what made you nod… or laugh… or go “oh.”

No fixing required. Just noticing where you are at without judgment. Being a good friend to yourself doesn't mean doing everything right but simply staying connected and curious about ourselves.

New about me section...thought it would be fun.

What I’m reading:
Revered Roots by LoriAnn Bird ~ I love the detailed plant drawings mixed with ancestral knowledge that asks you to slow down to digest each page.

What I’m listening to:
Tophouse ~ Songs for Walking. Its light, bright, catchy marching tunes that cheers me up and onwards. Hot tip ~Listening to songs that sound like how you want to feel is their own type of medicine.

What I’m practicing:
Lowering the bar. Not in a “give up” way—but in a “maybe it doesn’t have to be perfect to count” way.

Half-finished art? Counts.
Showing up tired? Counts.
Trying again after a weird day? Definitely counts.

Hope you found this interesting to learn a bit more about me. _________________________________________

If April is stirring things up for you too, you’re not doing it wrong.

This is just what change looks like sometimes—uneven, a bit chaotic, and surprisingly human.

And if you want support in the middle of it, I’m here.

Warmly (and probably in the wrong jacket),
Lora

Artist: Elizabeth Porritt Carrington There is a particular quality to March. The light lingers a little longer. The air shifts. The forest floor begins to soften. Nothing dramatic — just a quiet returning. Awakening rarely arrives in a rush. It is subtle. Gradual. Often uncomfortable. A stretching after a long season of conserving. In our inner lives, awakening can feel similar. We may begin to sense movement where there was once heaviness. A flicker of motivation. A desire to clear space. A...
